This Major Sea of Thieves Update Arrives February 10 with The Hungering Deep

Greetings Sea of Thieves community! I'm here to confirm that the next major update for Sea of Thieves will be arriving on February 10 and it's called The Hungering Deep.

Rare's open world, live service, multiplayer pirate game Sea of Thieves has maintained its popularity over the years thanks to regular updates that have added substantial new content to the game while also addressing community feedback. Rare is hoping for 2022 to be the biggest year yet for Sea of Thieves, which is something it hopes to accomplish by releasing even more updates for the game in the months ahead.

The next Sea of Thieves update is dropping on Thursday, February 10, and while it won't be the biggest update that the game's ever received, it will still be an important one. Rare released a new video discussing the Sea of Thieves February 10 update, giving fans a preview of what they can expect once the update goes live on February 10.

Here is everything that Sea of Thieves players need to know about the February 10 update.

Sea of Thieves Season 6 Teases

Sea of Thieves Season 6 doesn't start until next month, but Rare will begin teasing fans about it in-game with hints at what to expect. While fans will have to wait and see it in action to know the full scope, Rare has said that "spooky visions" will start appearing out at sea after Sea of Thieves players download the February 10 update. One of these "spooky visions" can be seen in the video Rare released about the February 10 update, and it appears to be showing off a Sea Fort.

For the uninitiated, Sea of Thieves Sea Forts are a big part of Rare's plan to make 2022 the biggest year yet for the game. Sea of Thieves fans have yet to see Sea Forts in action, but they have been compared to raids in other games. Players can expect to find these Sea Forts out at sea, and they can visit them to fight enemies and earn rewards. The "spooky vision" shown in the latest Sea of Thieves news update video shows one of the Sea Forts shrouded in a green glow associated with the ghost ships and ghost pirates that players can sometimes find in the game, though it's unclear if this means the Sea Forts are connected to them lore-wise as well.

More likely, these visions are simply meant to build hype for the Sea Forts, which will be added to the game as part of Season 6. A specific start date for Sea of Thieves Season 6 has not been revealed at the time of this writing, but more information on that should come to light sooner rather than later.

New Sea of Thieves Accessibility Feature

The Sea of Thieves February 10 update will also be adding a new accessibility feature to the game so that it can be better-enjoyed by a wider variety of players. After the new update, Sea of Thieves players will notice that the ship wheel now has a squeaking sound whenever players turn it a quarter of the way in either direction. Sea of Thieves players can adjust the volume of the squeak, so individuals who would benefit from hearing it can crank it up while those who'd rather do without it can turn it down. This should make it easier for all players to control Sea of Thieves ships.

Sea of Thieves: Shrouded Islands

Besides Sea Forts, another major feature coming to Sea of Thieves in 2022 are limited-time Adventures wherein players will be able to have a big influence on the game world and participate in new story quests. The first of these is called Shrouded Islands, and it is set to drop on February 17 and run until March 3. So while the February 10 update won't let Sea of Thieves players access this content just yet, it seems as though it will prep the game for its arrival on February 17.

Sea of Thieves Pirate Emporium Items for February 2022

Sea of Thieves is a live service game, and like other live service titles, it features microtransactions, letting players spend real world money in exchange for digital items. Sea of Thieves' marketplace is called the Pirate Emporium, and it will also get an update on February 10. Pricing information for these new Sea of Thieves Pirate Emporium items is unavailable at this time, but fans can look forward to a variety of different cosmetics after downloading the update.

This includes the Cutthroat Weapon Set, as well as a trio of emotes based on the "Three wise monkeys." Players will also be able to get an Ashen-themed skin for their Sea of Thieves pets, collector's versions of the Thunderous Fury sails and figurehead, and a prop master bundle that will allegedly help players stay hidden from sight.
